Chris and Karen
So sad to learn that Chris passed on Saturday afternoon at home. These precious portraits were created just four weeks before (on Feb 17, 2014) and will serve a true memory of his love to the family!

2013 Iris Awards
Very excited about my achievement in this year’s NZIPP Iris awards: two Bronze Awards, six Silver Awards and one Silver with Distinction. In addition to being awarded the Distinction ‘Master of Photography’, I became a finalist at the Portrait Classic and Portrait Creative categories. Being a Master of the NZIPP, I can now use the letters MNZIPP after my name.
The New Zealand Institute of Professional Photography celebrates the excellence across a wide range of photographic genres. It provides opportunity for professional photographer to earn merit awards and recognises the outstanding achievement of a small number of photographers through the major awards: photographer of the year, category finalist, category winner, etc. Categories include: Commercial, Creative, Fusion, Illustrative, Landscape, Photojournalism, Portrait Classic, Portrait Creative, Student/Assistant, Travel, Wedding Album, Wedding Classic and Wedding Creative. There were 1,327 print entries this year so delighted to be part of this amazing group!
I also have achieved success across the ditch in AIPP [Australian Institute of Professional Photography] annual awards where I was awarded two Silver Awards in the Illustrative category and a Silver Distinction Award in the Portrait category, denoting superior in imagination craft and skill.
Conducted by some of Australia’s most recognised photographers, judging for the awards took place over three days at the industry’s annual show. Each of the thousands of images entered was critiqued in detail by an esteemed judging panel. The awards were judged according to originality, creativity, technical skills, quality of printing and presentation. The Awards are the most sought-after accolade in Australian professional photography and the standard rises each year due to the fierce competition. The Australian Professional Photography Awards are open to all Australian and overseas professional photographers. The awards represent the best of the best professional photography in Australia.

North Shore National Salon
What a beautiful display of prints and digital images in 2013 North Shore National Salon of Photography currently showing twelve of my works including two Bronze Awards. This magnificent exhibition shows over 200 award winning prints as well as outstanding digital images from over 2,000 entries in categories such as: Portrait, Vegetation, H2O and Imagination. The exhibition currently takes place at Aotea Gallery, Level 4 Aotea Centre, until July 20, 9:00am until last show – entry is free.
While there, I just visited the incredible World Press Photo Exhibition which showcases the highs and lows of 2012. This is really a thought-provoking collection of the world’s best press and news photographs of 2012 – highly recommended photography from the top photographers, most are from conflict areas showing violence, pain and misery. Visit the showcase at Level 6, Smith & Caughey’s on Auckland’s Queen Street from July 6 till July 28. Tickets are $10 adults, $5 students. All proceeds go to the Rotary Club of Auckland, suitable for 12 years and over.
